Similator, Hand Grenade M116A1 INERT
SIMULATOR, HAND GRENADE, M116A1, NSN: 1370 00 752 8124, Part Number: 9256467. It produces a flash of light followed by a loud report. The body of the hand grenade simulator consists of a closed paper cylinder containing approximately 1.25 ounces of photoflash powder. The simulator body is approximately 1.6 inches in diameter and 3.75 inches long (4.27 with safety time fuse. ) A fuse lighter M3A1, is taped along the side of the body and is connected to a length of safety time fuse. The safety time fuse extends from the center of one end of the body and, after a 180-degree bend, is inserted into the fuse lighter. The fuse light er consists of a double pull cord, a cellulose nitrate coating on a phosphorous-coated wire, and ignition composition. One end of the cord is attached to the coated wire; the other is attached to a cap, which seals the end of the fuse lighter. The sealing cap is held in place during shipment and handling by a spring type wire safety clip.
M116A1 grenade simulator: This device shares the physical design of the M115A2, but has only 38 grams of flash powder. The reduction in noise and overpressure were an improvement, but the friction fuse delay precluded it from serious operational consideration.
The hand grenade simulator, M116A1, (Figure 5-6) is used to create battle noises and flashes during training. It differs from the ground burst simulator in that it is shorter and does not emit a high-pitched whistle before detonation. The hand grenade simulator is thrown in the same manner as a live grenade. It creates a flash and loud report 5 to 10 seconds after ignition
Hold simulator in throwing hand wearing a standard issue leather glove. With other hand, remove safety clip. Carefully remove cap until cord is free. JERK CORD ONCE- THROW SIMULATOR IMMEDIATELY AND TURN AWAY.
HAZARDS: SERIOUS INJURY CAN RESULT IF SIMULATOR IS NOT THROWN PROMPTLY. DO NOT PICK UP A SIMULATOT THAT FAILS TO EXPLODE. DRY GRASS AND LEAVES MAY BE INGNITED.
